An AI code generator that writes the project, not a snippet
IDEA is an AI code generator for whole applications. It plans the project, generates each file separately, runs the real TypeScript compiler across them, and repairs the errors it finds, so the files agree with each other instead of only parsing one at a time.
- Scope
- A complete multi-file project
- Verification
- Compiler, validators, schema checks
- Models
- Seven providers, or your own key
- Export
- ZIP, GitHub, or deploy
Why generating a project is harder than generating a function
A code assistant that completes a function only has to be right in one place. A generated project has dozens of files that import each other. When files are written independently, one can import a name its sibling never exports, and the app then crashes on start even though every file looks fine alone.
IDEA runs a cross-file check for exactly that: default versus named imports, missing exports, and the login contract between the generated API and the frontend. What it finds goes to a repair loop with the real compiler diagnostics attached.
How the generation run works
- Plan: the brief becomes modules, data models and a file tree.
- Generate: files are written one by one, and each is saved as a checkpoint.
- Verify: structure checks, the TypeScript compiler, and syntax checks for Python, Ruby and PHP backends.
- Repair: a bounded loop re-checks after each round and stops when it stops improving.
Because every file is checkpointed with its content, a failed run resumes where it stopped instead of paying again for the files that already succeeded. You can also cancel a run.
Which models write the code
IDEA can run on its own AI account or on your key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Ollama, NVIDIA, GitHub Models or OpenRouter. Keys are stored encrypted and used only to make requests on your behalf.
Questions, answered
Can an AI code generator build an entire application?
Yes, for well-described applications. IDEA generates the frontend, backend API, data models and authentication for an app from a written brief, then compiles and repairs the output. You should still review and test it before production use.
How do I know AI-generated code compiles?
IDEA runs the real TypeScript compiler on the generated project, including a check that imports between generated files match what those files export. Python, Ruby and PHP backends get a syntax check in a separate sandbox.
Who owns AI-generated code?
As between you and IDEA, you own the output generated for your projects. That is subject to the terms of the underlying AI provider and the licences of the open-source packages your project uses.
